Madeira Arquipelago is composed of four islands: Madeira, Porto Santo, Ilhas Desertas and Ilhas Selvagens, these last two being inhabited.
Those who visit Madeira Island normally expect making beautiful hikes, “levadas”, “trilhos”, viewpoins, mountains, natural beaches, gardens, and to enjoy the Madeira gastronomy.

Madeira is also known for its forest called “Laurissilva”, composed of trees, bushes and flowers and is integrated in the UNESCO.
In the “Laurissilva” forest area there are also many hikes which can be done and at the same time you can enjoy the beautiful landscapes and take pictures.
Madeira Island is rich in cultural traditions, such “arraiais” and “festas populares” which are local festivities (folklore music and typical food). There are some more events worth to see: The Carnaval, Flower Festival, Atlantic Festival; Wine festival, and the Christmas season.
The New Year´s eve is a must see when visiting the arquipelago, with its pleasant climate and it’s probably one of the largest events of the year and draws thousands of people to watch the spectacular fireworks show.
Madeira is known by its main theatre “Teatro Municipal Baltasar Dias”and you should not miss a visit. There is also a non missing concerts such as the Madeira Mandolin Orchestra, the English Church Concerts and the Madeira Classical Orquestra.
It´s also worth to visit the Madeira museums.
Food in Madeira goes beyond the “bolo do caco” and the “espetada tradicional”, since there are many other delicious meals which you should also taste, like “espada with banana”.
If you still have time, you should visit Porto Santo Island. Commonly named “the golden island” with the length of 9km of sandy beaches, unlike any of the one’s existent in Madeira. Appraised as one of the 7 Wonders of Portugal in 2012.
